Grind guide
Grind size controls how fast water pulls flavor out of coffee. Too fine for your brewer tastes bitter; too coarse tastes weak and sour. Pick the grind that matches how you brew, or order whole bean and grind right before you brew for the freshest cup.
| Grind | Feels like | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Whole Bean | Unground | Grinding at home. Stays fresh longest. |
| Espresso (Fine) | Fine sand | Espresso machines, moka pots, AeroPress with a short steep |
| Drip (Medium Fine) | Table salt | Auto-drip coffee makers, reusable K-Cup filters |
| Pourover (Medium Fine) | Table salt | V60, Chemex, Kalita, cone drippers |
| French Press (Coarse) | Coarse sea salt | French press, percolators |
| Cold Brew (Extra Coarse) | Cracked pepper | Cold brew and toddy systems, 12 to 18 hour steeps |
Steep bags and K-Cups
No grinder needed. Steep bags brew like tea: drop one in about 8 oz of hot water, wait 4 to 5 minutes, and squeeze it out. K-Cups work in Keurig-style brewers.
